OCCORD   &    Access

Founded as a community-labor alliance in 2005. OCCORD combines community organizing, civic participation, strategic research, and advocacy to engage residents, workers, and stakeholders in local government decisions that impact economic opportunity, community health, and overall quality of life.
OUR MISSION is to bring workers, families and community partners together to organize and advocate for good jobs, strong neighborhoods and an inclusive democracy in Orange County.

Access California is a social services agency serving immigrants and refugees with health and human services. Established in 1998, Access California Services is a culturally sensitive community-based organization dedicated to empowering underserved populations, with a focus on Arab- American & Muslim- American communities. We strive to enhance quality of life and foster self-determination through direct health & human services.

Representative Nahla Kayali will be sharing infomration on and for Access California services and resources. 

OCCORD's Citizenship Program is focused on expanding the electorate through citizenship.  The program encourages full participation in the democratic process and we do this by assisting Orange County residents the naturalization application, voter registration, and leadership development.  Together with residents, workers, and organizational stakeholders we work to ensure that the economic development in Orange County benefits everyone.

About Speaker Shakeel Syed:
Shakeel the executive director of OCCORD and he also serves the boards of American Civil Liberties Union (Southern California) & Death Penalty Focus who strives to abolish the death penalty in our nation. As an immigrant himself, Syed is deeply passionate in advocating & protecting the human rights, civil liberties of all, particularly the immigrant community. 

About Andrés Riveria : 
Andrés was born in Medellin, Colombia, and at the age of 6 Andrés and his mother migrated to Santa Ana, CA and Andrés obtained a BA in Latin American Studies from the University of California, San Diego.  With a passion for helping people, Andrés volunteered in various organization assisting immigrant communities.  In August of 2012 Andrés joined OCCORD as the Citizenship Program Coordinator.  He assist permanent residents in applying for citizenship and developing community leaders.  

Syed holds two masters degrees in the natural sciences and continues to live as a student for life. He is married and has four adult children.
